Health, Safety & Environmental Bulletin No 343

                                                 14 February 2013

                                                     Falling Sign

Please see enclosed self-explanatory bulletin that was shared with us by Aecom.

This bulletin was released on the same week that a young 27 year old lawyer from New Zealand was
killed whilst visiting London with his girlfriend when a 9m long shop fascia sign fell on him.

The sign had allegedly been “hanging off dangerously” for a month.

This incident shows that ensuring signs are correctly secured is essential, with potentially fatal
consequences for any failures. It also highlights the need to report any potential incidents; this sign had
allegedly been in a dangerous condition for a month - how many people saw it and didn’t report it?

Please ensure you report anything you see that could be dangerous, no matter where or what the
cause - we follow up every report and ensure the relevant party is informed, so preventative action can
be taken to mitigate future risks.

We are all a product of learning. Every skill we have; everything we know; everything we believe and everything
we do has been learned throughout the course of our lives. Some of us learn best by studying graphs and
charts, some through visual presentations, and some by reading detailed text books. It is important that we
receive information in a format that works for us as individuals! That’s why at Xmo Strata we use a variety of
communication platforms such as bulletins, newsletters, videos etc. However, if you feel there is a better way for
us to share health and safety information, please let us know. Ultimately, your safety is in your hands – but we
will do all we can to keep you well informed!
