Health, Safety & Environmental Bulletin No 271
27 October 2011
Use of Mobile Phones Whilst Driving
Please see enclosed self-explanatory safety alert issued by JCI.
Please refer directly to the Xmo Strata site rules that strictly specify that the non-driver
should always answer the phone when two people are in a vehicle and remember that if
someone doesn’t answer their phone, leave a message and don’t keep ringing and cause
unnecessary pressure on the receiver to answer.
With 25% of all road accidents now being attributed to the use of mobile phones and the
time pressures that our customers place on us, it’s more important than ever to remember
that your safety and that of your colleagues is far more important than any deadline that
we set or are set.
Risk management is a big step towards accident prevention; however, it is dependent on the risk firstly
being identified, then controlled. We need safety awareness to be instinctive and form an integral part
of both our working and home lives; it is this, in turn, that may save the lives of others. Remember: if
shared, risks can be mitigated before they pose a threat.
