Asbestos
In July, we were working on a filling station and had to stop work because asbestos was identified. On
this occasion is was corrugated asbestos sheeting that the fuel station shop fascia was fixed to. Our team
had attended that replace the shop fascia and timber frame, which would have disturbed the asbestos. The
job was suspended with the full support of our client.
The below graphic from Asbestos.com shows the gap between first exposure of asbestos and
Mesothelioma symptoms becoming apparent.
The latest HSE statistics for 2015, in the UK there were 1175 new cases of mesothelioma reported for
Industrial Injury Benefit, 2542 deaths from mesothelioma and (in 2014) 431 deaths where the death
certificate mentioned asbestosis.
