Sign company recognised with national safety award

Xmo Strata – the UK’s largest independent sign installation and maintenance company – has started the year with a ringing endorsement from RoSPA, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, by winning a prestigious ‘Behavioural Safety Best Practice Award 2006’.
To secure the Award, Xmo Strata had to demonstrate an effective and systematic approach to managing the behavioural aspects of health and safety, highlighting the initiatives and processes which have been established within the company.
“We are delighted to have received this award as it reflects the efforts of every single member of the Xmo Strata team,” explained managing director, Steve Martin. “This was more than just the company saying we are good at health and safety – we actually had to demonstrate that this approach runs through the core of everything the company does and that all staff know this, understand it, and, most importantly, implement it.”
Xmo Strata’s processes were judged against the relevant elements of effective health and safety management as laid out in the Health and Safety Executive’s guidance HSG65 and BSI’s guidance BS8800, CIA’s Responsible Care Management System (RC127), OHSAS18001 and also the HSE guidance on human factors (HSG48). The company also had to demonstrate a robust health and safety management systems approach and specifically address the ‘Six Pillars’ of Behavioural Safety: Workforce Ownership, Measurement (and goal-setting), Root Cause Analysis, Awareness Raising, Management and Supervision, Communication and Feedback.
“We set the company up to be both the best and the most safety conscious in the industry and awards like this help prove that this approach is the right one,” ended Mr Martin.
