Incident and Injury Free - A Statement of Intent
3rd July 2008
At a recent safety meeting, Xmo Strata was asked to reaffirm the commitment of BP/Bovis Global Alliance to achieving an Incident & Injury Free (IIF) working environment, by sharing the following information with all its staff and sub-contractors.
The following is an excerpt from the presentation given by BP/Bovis Global Alliance regarding its commitment to IIF:-
IIF - General Statement of Intent
Believing that human life can never be valued using any economic measure
Recognising that health and personal wellbeing is a human right
Appreciating that work is a means to the advancement of life and the realisation and fulfillment of personal and family aspirations and dreams
Trusting in our human endowments of conscience, awareness, imagination and free will that enable us to achieve economic gain and progress without compromising personal safety and wellbeing
We are committed to do everything possible to complete all our work activities Incident and Injury Free.
From this commitment we strive to:
- Plan, procure, and execute activities in a manner that will ensure we eliminate personal injury and human suffering.
- Promote incident and injury free working behaviours and practices to create a culture of understanding and care that demonstrates our commitment.
- Communicate on Incident and Injury Free regularly and effectively to enhance awareness and ensure that safety is at the forefront of what we do. Thus "a desire to be safe" becomes a catalyst influencing and underpinning our decisions and preventing us from taking actions that jeopardise our safety and that of others.
- Employ competent and reputable organisations that share our business ethos and values. We see these organisations as entities constantly involved in recruiting and developing people to a level of competency that will enable them to carry out their duties safely without causing any injuries to self or others. The leadership of these organisations are constantly thinking, talking and behaving in a manner that demonstrates a strong belief in safety as a value and a basic human right and not a business priority the importance of which can change with other priorities. The predominant organisational culture is that of care and consideration and one that promotes awareness about the value of personal safety and its importance to good business. Its work systems and procedures are responsible and geared towards allocating adequate and appropriate resources to tasks that enable their completion without causing any injuries to people or harm to the environment.
It goes without saying that at Xmo Strata and Xmo Veritas, we fully support any initiative that prevents anyone from being hurt or from suffering loss. We are pleased to endorse this culture by way of issuing this bulletin to everyone that we employ, in any capacity whatsoever.
