Global Alliance Bulletin - Serious Near Miss
22nd May 2008
Please see below a self explanatory extract from a Global Alliance bulletin.
From: Martin Rackley Global Alliance HSSE Manager Ref: B/08 18/03/2008

This situation was captured on one of our sites last Friday. It shows two of our Principal Contractor's staff. While one operates the forklift, his colleague is balanced on a pallet suspended on the forks. Both thought that getting the job done was more important than working safely. Neither thought to speak with the Site Manager first.
Our last newsletter contained an article on unsafe working including the following warning. “If you are tempted to cut corners on our sites, think of the consequences for yourself, your family and your employer”.
The consequences in this case are:
- Both individuals are prohibited from working on BP projects in future.
- Both individuals have been dismissed by their employer for gross misconduct and violation of their company's health & safety rules.
DON'T TAKE A CHANCE!
IF IN DOUBT, SPEAK TO YOUR SUPERVISOR OR OUR PRINCIPAL CONTRACTOR SITE MANAGER. SHORTCUTS PLACE YOU AND YOUR EMPLOYER AT RISK. DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU!
