Health & safety bulletin
High vis jackets and vests
3rd January 2008
The following is an excerpt and photograph from a Global Alliance safety bulletin:
From: Martin Rackley Global Alliance HSSE Manager Ref. No: G/07

Recent HSSE inspections and site visits have found an increasing number of contractors wearing old, dirty or damaged high vis jackets and vests. With the arrival of winter, the need to be seen at all times is even more important regardless of whether you work on a construction site OR operational s/stn forecourt.
- All supervisors are to check that high vis clothing is fit for purpose.
- Ensure dirt / mud is washed off. A dull colour is normally due to wear and over exposure to sunlight.
- Are the reflective strips clean? Do they work at night? Check BEFOREHAND.
- IF IN DOUBT – SPEAK WITH YOUR COMPANY SUPERVISOR AND REQUEST A NEW ISSUE.
Many thanks to the Global Alliance for allowing us to share this information.
